Satellite L40D-AS100G Reverse FN Key

When I bought my laptop a Toshiba Satellite L40D-AS100G with a Windows 8 OS, I thought that the default keys would be the standard one. I'm talking about when you Alt-F4 it will close a window, but it F1 - F12 keys works the other way around. The special function keys above works in default(do not require to press the FN key anymore in order to adjust brightness, volume, and other keys.

Toshiba Satellite L40D-AS100G

So I thought of this might be the new design of Toshiba and thinking that it is built-in on the BIOS level itself. But it keeps on bothering me these days that I cannot close a window immediately and it's just I'm not used in this kind of type keyboard setup. So here's my way of sharing what I've learn on how to reverse cursed.

Here's how to make your L40D-AS100G your FN keys to operate back to the standard F1 - F12 keys where we're usually familiar with.

NOTE:  This procedure was made in a Windows 8 environment. After doing the changes and clicking "Ok", your system will be immediately rebooted.

1. Press and hold the Windows key then press"C" for the Charm bar to come out then click Search.

Charm Bar
2. Enter on the search Toshiba System Setting and then click the System Setting on the Apps

3. On the Toshiba System Settings, click Keyboard then change the Function Keys Mode from "Special function mode" to "Standard F1-F12 mode".

4. After change the mode click Ok and the system will reboot and after that the default keys mode will be now the Standard F1-F12 mode.

Enjoy and have a great day!
